lowed here and there's a doorman to make sure of that. Mostly middle and upper class. And extremely friendly. Everyone here is friendly and polite. A must for any visitor to see!
Saint 105 2nd Avenue. Private. Membership required for entry. 1 year memberships start at $500. Admission varies with type of membership. (Only beer and juice served here; but fees include all you, can drink). Open Saturday and Sunday only, September through May. Gay men only.
You're really not missing much here. Rising on the ashes of the old Fillmore East, the Saint is the most talked about gay
club the country. A $4 million complex equipped with space-age. video and audio effects like no other.
When you first walk through the doors, that's only the beginning. You are then checked in by three different staff members. All making sure no one tries to sneak through. The major part of this palace is all black-hightech decor and the dance floor is up a flight of stairs. and totally enclosed by a huge aluminum dome. It hovers over a dance floor capable of holding 1,300 patrons. 336 speakers pipe the sound out as 16 ISSUE 85
1,500 light fixtures (none of them neon!) provide the visual experience. Frankly, I thought the clientele provided my visual experience! Lots of Hott people.
Dress is pretty casual. Lots of jeans and IZODS and even bare chests running around. Nothing outlandish or wild here. The complex holds 4,800 people and an average. evening is like 4,000. Best time to go is after 2 or 3
a.m.

Stix is one of N.Y.'s calmer bars. The atmosphere is more mellow and not as intense as the
NYC
mega-bars. The men here are friendly and dress is casual. The complex has two floors. Main level has a large circular bar and

and Sundays are gay. Midnight-3 a.m. best times.
Manhattan's most famous mecca of music and merry making is still #1. Housed in an old CBS television studio, the place has kept most of it's charm and original fixtures. Decadent and fun, 54 is whatever you want it to be. Exhibitionism and fantasy at it's most refined. and polished. And always a beautiful crowd. And the bartenders Marge! They'll knock your socks. off! Bare chested and in faded blue jeans, they almost make it worth $4 a drink.
54 is the masterpiece of disco's; a true work of art. The lighting effects and visuals are spectacular; the sound is incredible. and the music is the best in the city. Lots of actors, models, and a few stars. And even a few simple folks out having a good time. A must!!
UNCLE CHARLIE'S
large dance floor. And downstairs offers a smaller bar and lounge area for chatting and socializing. Good music and good people. A must see!

Uncle Charlies Restaurant 542 3rd Avenue at 36th St. Piano bar/restaurant. Real busy from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. and 11 p.m.2 a.m.
Good food and good company here. Mostly businessmen but you're
never sure just who will be there! A great meeting place after work or before a play.
Uncle Charlies South3rd Avenue at 38th St. Cruise bar with video's and music. Popular. Best time midnight-3 a.m.
Charlie's South is quite popular and draws mostly a younger crowd. Between sets of music, the video screens come to life. You never know what they will show. Maybe a Saturday Night Live classic skit or an excerpt from Leave It To Beaver. Always a fun time with great people.
Uncle Charlies Downtown 56 Greenwich Avenue. Cruise bar with videos. Very popular. Best time 11 p.m.-3 a.m. Weekends pack them in.
Charlie's Downtown is one of my favorites. The crowd is predominately young, 17-25 and very preppy, dressed casually nice. The people are friendly and seems to draw a lot of prettys. And here too, between sets of popular disco, video's are shown on 4 t.v.s and 4 large projection screens simultaneously. A must!!
As for the baths in New York, St. Marks Baths is the busiest and best. Located on 8th St. just E. of 3rd Avenue, St. Marc's is always full. (Don't waste your time or money. at Man's Country.) And if you're visiting in the Big Apple, pick up a copy of Michael's Thing. It's the best gay guide to the city.
